Health Minister Unveils NCSM–Pharm-D Health Science VALENS Cancer Support Fund on World Cancer Day

Kuala Lumpur, 5 Feb 2026 – Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad unveiled the NCSM–PDHS VALENS Support Fund, a cancer patient support initiative, in conjunction with World Cancer Day 2026 on February 4. The fund was established through a collaboration between the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) and Pharm-D Health Science (PDHS).

Observed globally under the theme United by Unique, the World Cancer Day highlights the importance of recognising each individual’s unique cancer journey. In Malaysia, the observance aligns with national efforts to strengthen cancer prevention, early detection, access to care, and sustainable patient support.

The NCSM–PDHS VALENS Support Fund is grounded in three core principles: Accessibility, Sustainability, and Transparency. These principles are closely aligned with the theme of World Cancer Day, United by Unique, which recognises that every patient’s cancer journey is different and requires tailored support.

The fund ensures that underserved cancer patients have equitable access to specialised nutritional product support, which is essential for improving treatment tolerance, recovery and quality of life.  By addressing financial barriers, the fund ensures that no patient is left behind, reflecting World Cancer Day’s call to recognise each individual’s unique needs.

As part of the fund’s immediate and tangible support, Pharm-D Health Science has committed to donating 1,000 cans of VALENS Onthera+, a specialised immunonutrition formula, through the initiative Onthera+ 1,000 Cans of Hope. This contribution represents a concrete expression of the fund’s purpose, which offers specialised nutritional support to cancer patients in need.

Pharm-D Health Science reinforces long-term sustainable support by allocating a portion of Pharm-D Health Science’s VALENS specialised nutrition product sales to NCSM under this fund arrangement. This structured and sustainable approach ensures continuity beyond one-off contributions and strengthens nutritional care in the cancer journey.

Transparency underpins responsible governance. By implementing structured fund management, phased support delivery, utilisation tracking, and impact monitoring, the support fund ensures accountability and delivers measurable impact.

Beyond direct patient support, the collaboration also places strong emphasis on awareness and education initiatives led by NCSM to empower patients, caregivers, and communities with the knowledge to navigate cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship.

According to the President of NCSM, Datuk Dr. Saunthari Somasundaram, the initiative reflects a holistic approach to cancer care,

“Cancer care is not defined solely by treatment protocols, it is about ensuring that patients are supported holistically, with dignity, knowledge, and access to essential resources. The NCSM–PDHS VALENS Support Fund reflects a values-driven partnership that prioritises accessibility, sustainability, and transparency, while strengthening patient education and long-term support for those who need it most.”

Meanwhile, Group Managing Director of Pharm-D Health Science, Wong Chin Cheang said the initiative reflects the organisation’s broader responsibility to contribute to national health priorities:

“As a home-grown company, we believe our role extends beyond developing health solutions to actively supporting the communities we serve. This fund represents a long-term commitment to patient wellbeing, where access to specialised nutrition, education, and sustainable support come together to create real, measurable impact in cancer care for the patients and families in Malaysia.”

The World Cancer Day 2026 programme hosted by NCSM, convened national stakeholders in support of a more inclusive and sustainable cancer care ecosystem.

Initiatives such as the NCSM–PDHS Valens Support Fund represent a significant step forward in improving access to long-term, measurable support for cancer patients, while reinforcing the role of specialised nutrition and education as vital components of comprehensive cancer care in Malaysia. Beyond providing tangible support, the fund embodies the spirit of United by Unique, championing personalised, sustainable and inclusive cancer care across Malaysia.
